2-Week (15 Days) Costa Rica Rainforest Experience for Student Artist

Expected Itinerary (19 College Visits): Art teachers Melinda Staley and Claire Bubeck will choose 6-8 students to
finalize from the pool of applicants to take part in the 2 week experience that they will attend and instruct. The daily
schedule is based on these four guidelines:

- 1. Art education – Students will make a lasting mural and focus on their individual visual arts craft (i.e.,
painting, photography, short films, muralists, poets, playwrites, mixed media, textile artists, fashion
illustrators, weavers, sculpture, jewelry, papier-mache, composers, and similar self-contained artistry not
requiring external finishing)
- 2. Cultural Immersion – Experience the Costa Rican people, language, culture and setting.
- 3. EcoHumanitarianism – Enjoy and respect the biodiversity found in the natural rainforest which is all of
Costa Rica. In addition, to consider what we individually can do to make our planet more sustainable as it is
the only planet we have.
- 4. EduVisitation – While the whole experience will be educational we expect to make time to visit a local
university or have a college present directly to attendees in-person or virtually.
